An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. That's why we recommend annual wellness exams for your pets. During these exams, we will:
Regular exams allow us to get a baseline for what is 'normal' for your pet, and then be able to more quickly catch, identify, and treat any issues that may arise.
Keeping your pet properly vaccinated against the most common diseases is one of the best ways to keep them healthy. We will discuss what vaccinations are best for your pet. This will include core vaccines such as rabies, distemper, calicivirus, and panleukopenia, as well as lifestyle vaccines such as leptospirosis, kennel cough, lyme, influenza, and feline leukemia, depending on your pets lifestyle and particular risks.
Note: rabies vaccinations are required for all dogs and cats in the United States.
Fleas, ticks, heartworm, and other parasites can seriously impact the health and comfort of your pets. Untreated, some parasites can also spread to humans, impacting your family, too. There are many parasite control options available. We will work with you to decide which options are best for your pets based on their lifestyle, and yours as well.
We recommend protecting your pet year round with monthly parasite prevention, and offer both topical and oral options such as:
We have many popular options in stock, and special products can be ordered if needed.
Do pets really need dental care?
Periodontal disease can cause painful inflammation and tooth root abscesses, but that’s not all.
Your pet’s mouth is the doorway to the body. Periodontal disease, and the bacteria that causes it, can lead to serious damage of the internal organs such as the heart, lungs, kidneys, and liver.
Maintaining your pet’s dental health is very important to us. We have state-of-the-art dental equipment to ensure proper diagnosis, treatment, cleaning, or surgery when necessary.
Our digital dental x-ray is a safe and effective tool to evaluate the health of your pets tooth roots and jaw bones that we cannot otherwise see, helping to ensure a thorough cleaning of your pets teeth, while also using 70% LESS radiation than traditional film x-rays.
Whether it's planned or urgent, our staff and facility are prepared to perform:
We also partner with select board-certified specialists who will come to our clinic to perform surgeries such as:
Accidents happen, and when they happen to your pet, our staff & hospital are trained & equipped to handle many emergencies. Not quite a GPS system for your pet, but the next best thing!
Unlike a collar or tag that can fall off, a microchip is a permanent ID for your pet. It is the size of a grain of rice, and we insert it just under your pet's skin.
Once inserted, we register your pet's unique microchip ID in a national registry. If your pet is ever lost, whoever finds them will be able to use a universal microchip reader, that is available at any vet, shelter, animal control officer, or police station, to read your pet's permanent ID, and report them as found, returning them safe & sound.
One study has shown that 52% of microchipped dogs are reunited with their owners, while only 22% of lost dogs without microchips find their way back home. For cats, 39% are returned to their owners when microchipped, while sadly only 2% get home without it.
Don't forget to update the microchip registry if you move or your phone number changes - we can help you with that!
Our state-of-the-art onsite digital x-ray equipment allows us to quickly diagnose issues that may not be obvious from external observation alone. Our machine is designed to reduce your pet's stress by utilizing a floating/moveable tabletop, and immediate picture processing. This means less time, less restraint, and less stress for your sick pet. And because it's digital, your pet is subjected to 70% less radiation than film x-rays - a win-win for all!
For diagnosing a multitude of soft tissue issues & for critical care examinations, we use non-invasive, radiation-free ultrasound that uses sound waves to give us an image of your pets internal organs, allowing us to painlessly check for any damage or issues.
Our onsite diagnostics laboratory allows realtime access to most of the common lab tests that your pet will require. This means same-day results, leading to much quicker diagnoses.
These tests include:
For more advanced or unique testing, we work closely with an expert, external laboratory to ensure all your pet's diagnostic needs are covered.
Our onsite pharmacy gives you immediate, convenient access to the veterinary medications your pets need. Individualized treatment plans include dosages and specific directions on how & when to medicate your pet.
Traveling to another country and taking your pet along?
Every country has it's own standards and certifications required before you can bring your pet into their country. We can help you navigate these requirements, ensuring that your pet is healthy and properly vaccinated for whatever country you plan to visit, and providing any necessary certifications for your trip.
Going across state lines? Did you know that a health certificate can make your travels go more smoothly? Hotels and boarding facilities will be more readily willing to admit your pet if their health is pre-certified.
Many maladies, such as ear infections, skin problems, vomiting, and diarrhea, may be alleviated by finding the proper diet for your pet. Maintaining a proper weight for your pet will not only make them happier & healthier, but also reduce the stress & wear on their joints.
Breeds prone to knee & back problems are less likely to injure themselves or need surgery if they are kept trim all their lives. This includes puggles, dachshunds, corgis, labradors, and pit bulls.
Did you know as early as two years old is when most dogs start gaining extra weight?
When it comes to losing weight, we can assess their body condition score and discuss a healthy weight loss plan to meet their needs. We work with you and your pet to find the best course of action for their nutritional needs.
For your convenience, we also stock several different prescription diets, and can order others for you based on your pet's needs and your preferences.
Do poor leash manners keep you at home instead of taking daily walks with your dog? Has your best friend eaten your socks or shoes lately? Does your kitty sometimes miss or avoid her litterbox - maybe even on purpose?
We can discuss any behavioral issues your pet is exhibiting, and give you guidance & counseling for how to address such issues. We'll first examine your pet to ensure that such behaviors are not being caused by some underlying issue, such as a urinary tract infection. Then we'll give you some tips & techniques that can help make both your life, and your pet's life, more enjoyable together!
For more difficult behavioral issues, we can collaborate with behavioralists and trainers as needed.
For your pet's enjoyment, as well as your own, we carry an assortment of dog and cat toys. We're always looking for new and unusual toys to add to our assortment, so stop by regularly to see what we've found and check out our latest options!
We also have Lupine leashes, treats by Greenies, Polkadog Bakery, and more.
Just like us, as our pets age, their needs change, their diet changes, and the health issues they face are different from when they were a puppy or kitten. Our goal with regular examinations is to catch any issues as early as possible in order to keep them happy & healthy well into their golden years. Regularly scheduled examinations allow monitoring and adjustments to treatments before major issues arise. Some conditions require annual checkups, while others are best monitored more frequently.
During visits we work with you to choose the most appropriate diets, exercise options, medications, and more to make your pet's senior years more comfortable & enjoyable for the both of you.
It's the toughest decision every pet owner ultimately faces - when to say goodbye to our beloved pets. This is a deeply personal decision for everyone to make. We will always be here to provide our prognosis for your pet's condition, and their likely quality of life, to help you make that decision. And if you decide it is time, we will ensure a private, compassionate goodbye to your beloved pet, and can provide cremation services if desired.
